There’s nothing better than a freshly baked donut! This recipe is easy to make and you don’t even need a mixer. You’re going to love this perfectly sweet donut recipe. Add a swirl of your favorite jam and a handful of mini chocolate chips to take the flavor up a notch.
Baked donuts have a light, cakey texture and are healthier than a fried donut. So what are you waiting for?! Grab your donut pan and let’s make these tasty cherry donuts!
Made With Cherry Jam Filling and Mini Chocolate Chips
I had a jar of cherry preserves in my pantry and thought “What could I do with that?” which led me to this delicious cherry donut recipe! I used a reduced sugar cherry jam from Trader Joe’s that smells fruity and tart. Top each donut cavity with a few teaspoons of cherry jam to elevate the flavor of your donuts.
Cherry and chocolate is a delicious combination so I decided to throw some mini chocolate chips into the batter. The flavor profile of these donuts is *chefs kiss* and they are so unique! Woo your friends and family at your next brunch with these homemade donuts.
What If You Don’t Have a Donut Pan?
No donut pan? No worries! I had a little leftover batter and tried baking one of these donuts muffin-style instead. It totally worked!
A muffin or cupcake tin can easily be used instead of a donut pan. You may need to increase the baking time a bit. Keep your eye on the donut muffins as they bake and use a toothpick to check for doneness. There should be little crumbs on the toothpick once cooked through.

Want to make a different flavored donut?
If you don’t have cherry jam or you aren’t a huge fan of cherries, I got you! Swap the cherry preserves for another jam of your choosing. Blueberry, raspberry or apricot jam would be delicious too.
Gluten-free?
To make this recipe gluten-free, I recommend using a gluten-free baking flour that is a 1:1 substitute for all-purpose flour. Avoid almond flour or coconut flour. Oat flour would probably work, however it will weigh the donuts down and alter the texture a bit.
Dairy-free?
If you follow a dairy-free diet, simply opt for non-dairy milk. Any kind should work! I like oat, hemp, rice, coconut or almond milk.

cherry chocolate chip donuts
Want a fun recipe to make for brunch? Try these delicious baked donuts. This recipe uses cherry jam, mini chocolate chips and almond extract.
- Prep Time: 10
- Cook Time: 12
- Total Time: 22 minutes
- Yield: 12 1x
- Category: Dessert
- Method: Bake
- Cuisine: American
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- ⅔ cup white sugar
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips
- 6 tablespoons cherry jam or preserves
Instructions
- Whisk together the wet ingredients in a mixing bowl: milk, vinegar, eggs, melted butter and extracts.
- Next add the dry ingredients. Incorporate the spooned and leveled flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder and salt into the wet ingredients.
- Stir in the mini chocolate chips. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
- Grease your donut pan with cooking spray or melted butter. Fill the donut cavities halfway with batter.
- Spoon little dollops of cherry preserves into each donut cavity and use a small spoon or butter knife to swirl the jam into the batter. Top off each donut cavity until it’s ¾ of the way full. (Overfilling your donut mold will cause the batter to overflow while baking and there will not be a hole in the middle of your donut. I recommend baking just a few donuts in your first batch so you can test out your donut pan and find what ratio works best for you before baking a full batch.)
- Bake donuts at 425°F for 10 to 14 minutes or until lightly golden and baked through. Use a toothpick to test for doneness. Let donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before moving to a cooling rack or parchment-lined baking sheet.
