- Vegan or dairy-free? I would recommend making my egg free chocolate chip cookie recipe instead and mixing in some chopped up Oreos. Be sure to use high-quality vegan stick butter instead of regular butter and vegan and dairy-free chocolate.
- Don't have Oreos? Add in more chocolate chips or try swapping the Oreos for another cookie you may have in your pantry. Chocolate Teddy Grahams could be a fun addition to try instead!
Variations
Here are a few ideas for customizing this recipe and making different flavor variations:
- Substitute the chocolate chips for white chocolate to make Oreo white chocolate chip cookies.
- Make extra large cookies and cover an Oreo with cookie dough to make an Oreo stuffed cookie.
- Make a double chocolate cookie dough by substituting ¼ cup of flour for cocoa powder.
- Use golden Oreos instead of chocolate for a vanilla twist on this recipe.

Yes! You can freeze baked cookies and thaw them to eat later or you can store unbaked cookie dough balls in a freezer storage bag to bake off later.

- aluminum baking sheet
- parchment paper
- mixing bowl
- measuring cups and spoons
- rubber spatula
- cookie scoop or spoon
Storage
Room Temperature Instructions
Store the baked and cooled cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. Homemade cookies are best enjoyed in the first couple of days.
Freezing Instructions
Store the baked and cooled cookies in a freezer storage bag and freeze them for up to two months. Once you're ready to enjoy the cookies, let them thaw at room temperature until they are ready to eat.
Add unbaked cookie dough balls to a freezer bag with enough space between each ball to prevent sticking. Lay the bag flat in the freezer. When you're ready to bake off a few cookies, remove the dough balls to thaw at room temperature for about an hour or overnight in the fridge.
If you're short on time, decrease your oven temperature by 25°F and bake the cookies for an additional 2 to 3 minutes. (The thawing method will result in a better bake than changing the bake temperature and time.)
Cookies made with frozen dough may slightly differ in appearance and texture from those made with fresh dough.

Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies (Bakery Style & Chewy!)
These Oreo chocolate chip cookies are a huge crowd-pleaser, plus they are easy to make. Crushed Oreos are mixed into my favorite chocolate chip cookie dough for a sweet, chewy, and chocolatey cookie!
- Prep Time: 15
- Cook Time: 12
- Total Time: 30
- Yield: 12 1x
- Category: Cookies
- Method: Bake
- Cuisine: American
Ingredients
- ½ cup salted butter, softened
- ¾ cup brown sugar, lightly packed
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ¾ cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- ¾ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- ½ cup Oreos, slightly crushed
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (176°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. The butter and brown sugar will have lightened in color.
- Add in the egg and vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold chocolate chips and crushed Oreos into the cookie dough.
- Using a cookie scoop or spoon to portion out the dough. Roll the cookie dough ball in between your palms to help shape it into a round ball.
- Top the cookie dough balls with extra chocolate chips and Oreos before baking.
- Place 6 cookie dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. I’d recommend baking for 10 minutes if you want a slightly under-baked cookie or if your oven runs hot. I found 12 minutes was the perfect time for a slightly crispy and chewy cookie with golden edges.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack or tray to cool completely. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. Cookies are best enjoyed in the first couple of days.
